 How it WORKS!

Oloid is versatile and can be used just as a surface aerator or just as surface agitator, or as a combination Aerator & Agitator!

THE OLOID AS SURFACE AERATOR

Immersed by a third or half of its volume in water, the Oloid body creates a water fan on the surface which enriches the water body with oxygen. Besides, the paddling motion of the Oloid body draws the water from the depth and then conveys it in a pulse-type movement and a straight line away from itself.

This procedure is highly efficient if large ponds with depths of 1.5-3 m have to be circulated and aerated. The actual water surface is increased by standing waves and therefore the specific oxygen transfer (on an average 8–12 gO2/m2/d) is approximately doubled. In fact, the OLOID-type 400 offers a highly interesting solution with surfaces of up to 5000 m2. For 5000 m2, an O2 transfer of 50 kgO2/d may be achieved. The flow may be up to 120 m long and efficiently prevents small-flow circulations treating the same amount of water again and again. Oxygen-poor water is carefully and regularly drawn to the surface. In sewage ponds, this will promote nitrification.

Ideally, this OLOID procedure is used to redevelop ponds and lakes, for oxidation ponds, leachate and dumping ponds as well as pond sewage treatment plants.

THE OLOID AS SURFACE AND DEPTH AGITATOR

For this procedure, the OLOID body is fully immersed and positioned below the water surface. The water surface remains calm while pulsing waves pass through the entire water body. The flow draws the water from below in two eddy currents and then linearly pushes it away from the machine at a right angle close to the water surface. In this manner, the entire water volume is circulated and thoroughly mixed without any oxygen transfer.

OLOID-type 400 on the average conveys 700 m3/h. Flow speed fluctuates at a distance of 0–10 m from the agitator at around 20-30 cm/s, at 10–20 m from the agitator at around 10–15 cm/s. The flow spreads up to 120 m. Round and narrow rectangular basins best meet the specific flow characteristics of the OLOID. Low-flow areas are still reached by the pulsing waves which, depending on the prevailing circumstances, prevents a sedimentation of suspended matter.

This procedure is used to de-stratify smaller lakes and ponds, for de-nitrification in communal sewage treatment plants (suspension of activated sludge), to mix and circulate in case of technical processes, to circulate liquid manure and for aquaculture, above all in large sea-water aquariums.

COMBINATION OF THE OLOID AGITATOR WITH VARIOUS AERATION SYSTEMS

Efficient and cost-effective, the OLOID system is above all suitable if you combine fine-bubble aeration with OLOID agitators. The flow characteristics of OLOID agitators enable fine oxygen bubbles to remain in the sewage for a longer time while activated sludge is suspended in an optimal manner and a homogeneous mixture is achieved.

The latter substantially improves degradation in activated-sludge basins or aeration ponds concerning organic carbon and nitrogen-components. Only the oxygen necessary for biological degradation has to be transferred as the circulation and homogeneous distribution of oxygen in the water volume is handled by the OLOID agitator.

One of the great advantages is that the OLOID agitator is quite flexible and may be combined with all the usual aeration systems (fine-bubble pressure aeration such as e.g. line or plate aeration, injection aeration, rotor aeration, turbine aeration) and with similarly advantageous effects everywhere. This fact manifests itself mainly with the employment of OLOID Technology in pond sewage treatment plants.

The combined OLOID system allows you to cut down on operating and investment costs as aeration intensity and duration may be reduced. In addition, the same basins or ponds may be operated with alternating aerobic and anoxic conditions (degradation of carbon and nitrogen). This system is successfully employed in the OLOID sewage treatment plant.
